My sister, Morinda, gave me permission to share her words
and together we ask for your love and prayers for little
Ivy Maude.
Ivy Maude.
“Ivy Maude was life-flighted from Utah Valley IHC Hospital to Primary Children’s Medical Center Friday, March 19, 2010. She turned blue and lost consciousness for almost 8 minutes in my arms before being rushed into the OR to be intubated. Her mysterious raspy breathing had stumped her doctor for almost a month. She had been hospitalized previously and no answers were found and now, almost a month later she is in the hospital fighting for her little life.
“After arriving at Primary Children’s she was immediately given chest ex-rays and a CT scan where there was found 3 large masses in her chest. Macro-cystic lymphatic malformations are what the doctors are calling these fluid filled vessels that are taking up space in her tiny chest cavity. They are very rare and even more rare are the number of cases that show up in the chest and neck like Maude’s. They are compressing her little trachea and lungs. We’ve almost lost her twice in the last few days.
“A procedure was done to drain the fluid that filled these “cysts”, and another procedure to try to reduce the size. Because there isn’t very much documented info on this sort of malformation, we know very little about the outcome. She will go back to the OR this week where they will see if it is possible to remove the breathing tube and help her breathe on her own. But for now we must wait and see. If all goes well we could be home in the next week or so, but we will be coming back frequently over the next months and possibly years to see how this condition will change over time and if it continues to cause her problems.
“We have had an outpouring of love and concern from family and friends. Thank you for your love and support. Despite the gravity of this situation, we have seen the tender mercies of a loving Heavenly Father that has been a part of this process each step of the way. Every little prayer matters right now, so please say a prayer for Ivy Maude; that is the best thing anyone can do for us right now. Thanks.”

My prayers are with you. I’m glad you’ve recognized the tender mercies from the Lord. Years ago our family experienced the fright of a sick child and having a machine breath for her. It’s indeed an experience that no parent wants for their child, yet the marvels of modern medicine are a true blessing. I will continue to pray and watch your blog for updates.
Love you all.
