I Love These Feet

Last week
I briefly sat on the shore,
watching my favorite feet play in the sand,
run through the waves,
and discover one of my favorite places,
the beach.

Somehow I had forgotten.
It’s possible I subconsciously blocked the memories,
but hearing the roar of the waves
and smelling the salt, sand, and seaweed
brought a rush of nostalgia.
Maybe
it’s the soothing white noise of the waves
rhythmically sweeping against the sand
or the plethora of unique and culturally diverse
enjoying the same view.

I sat watching b*rod braving the cold sea water,
going farther and farther out
and wondered why did I ever leave this place?
Then
we got back in the car
and began the long trek home.
On the freeways.
In traffic.
But,
it wasn’t until we began our 2:00 am assent
up the deserted S-curves that opened to a view of Primrose Cirque
that I remembered.
I’m so happy to be home!
( I do love that feeling of slightly sunburned skin with a light dusting of salt and sand!!)
